Do you know what today is? It’s all about branding

Paul Martin / February 22, 2018

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Branding is a topic that might not get a lot of attention, but it’s in our faces all day, every day.

business-man-1031755_1920 (1).jpgIn a world where each of us is bombarded with massive amounts of media – whether it be audio, visual or both – organizations are always competing for a share of our mind or the consumer’s attention.

And this tends go beyond traditional advertising – this is about finding so-called earned media exposure. Things like viral videos on the Internet are examples of someone spreading their message without having to buy advertising time or space.

Another is tying your product to a day. Today is a prime example. This is National Margarita Day. It’s also National California Day in the U.S. Too bad we don’t have a Saskatchewan Day in Canada where everyone has to eat wheat-infused lentils cooked in Canola oil. This is also Cook a Sweet Potato Day and National Chili Day.

Given the theme of margaritas, chili and California, perhaps we should see this as a signal that winter is on its way out. Or maybe it’s just a way to get us thinking about taking a hot holiday.
